Considerations for Spacing Your Murraya Hedge
When planting murraya as a hedge, you need to consider the type of murraya you will grow and for what purpose.
If you are planting for a low and compact murraya hedge, you will naturally use a smaller murraya variety. Therefore you will need to space them closer, about 1 foot (30 cm) apart.
If your purpose if for screening, that too is a consideration because you will likely plant a murraya that grows to a small tree of maybe about 10 feet (3 metres) tall. When planting these types of murraya for a hedge, the ideal spacing is about 2.5 feet (76 cm). You can keep them a little closer at about 2 feet (60 cm) if you want a denser screen.
Much taller murraya varieties for a tree line along walkways need to be planted about 3 to 3.5 feet (91 to 107 cm) apart.
Generally, murraya grows from a height of up to 10 feet (3 metres) while dwarf varieties grow up to 3 feet (1 metre). However, they can also grow up to 23 feet (7 metres).
