Vermiculite - Soil Conditioner
Vermiculite is a lightweight, natural mineral and one of the handiest additions to any potting or seed-raising mix. Heated until it puffs up into a soft, sponge-like accordion structure, it soaks up and holds water and nutrients - then releases them steadily to the roots - while keeping the mix light and airy.
It's especially good for seed raising, propagation and moisture-loving plants, and for lightening heavy soils. Because vermiculite holds water rather than draining it, pair it with perlite whenever you want sharper drainage.
