More information

Akadama Tsuti is a premium ultra-fine Japanese volcanic soil in the 1-3mm grade. Sourced from the renowned red jade soil deposits of Japan, this fine-particle Akadama is ideal for applications requiring maximum surface area and moisture retention in a small grain size.

Best suited for:

  • Shohin and mame bonsai
  • Seed-raising and propagation mixes
  • Fine substrate blends for delicate root systems
  • Cacti, succulents, and alpine plants
  • Top dressing for bonsai pots

Key properties:

  • Ultra-fine 1-3mm particle size for maximum contact with fine roots
  • Excellent water absorption and retention
  • Good drainage despite fine particle size
  • Slightly acidic pH (~6.9)
  • Rich in silica, calcium, magnesium, and other essential minerals

How to use:

Use pure for shohin bonsai and seed raising, or mix with other substrates like pumice and Kiryuzuna for custom blends. The fine particle size makes it especially effective as a top layer in bonsai pots or mixed at 30-35% with other media for general potted plants.
