Dolomite is a natural calcium magnesium carbonate and one of the easiest ways to sweeten an acidic soil, gently raising its pH while adding two nutrients plants need: calcium and magnesium. It is finely ground so it breaks down steadily in the soil, and it also helps improve soil structure and the uptake of other nutrients.
Features
- High neutralising value (NV 98%), so it corrects soil acidity efficiently
- Raises the pH of acidic soils (sweetens sour soil)
- Adds both calcium and magnesium, correcting magnesium deficiency
- Helps improve soil structure and nutrient availability
- Finely ground (95% finer than 0.15mm), so it is fast-acting in the soil
- A 100% natural mineral, Australian sourced
Perfect for
- Correcting acidic soils in garden beds and pots
- Magnesium-deficient soils where leaves are yellowing
- Vegetable beds, flower beds and lawns
- Adding a little to potting mixes, worm farms and compost to counter acidity
How to use (a guide only, always adjust to your own soil)
- Flower and garden beds: around 75 to 150 g per square metre
- Heavier clay soils: around 150 to 300 g per square metre
- It is worth doing a pH test first. Dolomite raises pH, so avoid adding it to soils that are already alkaline, as this can lock up nutrients.
